We are happy to announce v4.8 which includes an update to leaflet.js and for which we focused on performance improvements as well as usability optimizations.
An updated to the latest version is – as always – highly recommended.
Now let´s get to the highlights of this release:
With v4.8 we updated leaflet.js to v1.6.0. For the full technical leaflet.js changelog, please click here.
The settings for how many maps and markers are displayed on the backend are now saved on a user-basis. Additionally you can select which colums to display. Those new settings can be accessed via the “Screen Options” link:
Additionally we also made the advanced settings a user-based setting instead of a global one:
With v4.8 we also added an option to change the “worldcopyjump” setting for leaflet.js. This setting has been enabled by default so far and has the effect that when you pan past the edges of a map, objects such as markers will seamlessly be moved to the new copy of the map. This can now be disabled on demand (which is generally not needed though).
You will find this new setting on the map edit page, tab “Interaction” (do not forget to enable “Show advanced settings”):
If geocoding fails, you will now see more detailled error messages, also when using the import tool now.
With v4.8 we also optimized the maps block for Gutenberg to be more intuitive (as far as this is possible with Gutenberg :-/):
We also fixed some bugs related performance issues with KSES CSS filters, WPML language selection not working under certain circumstances, issues with capability checks on backend and rare popup centering issues on maps.
Thanks to 100+ translators this release also includes some update translations, see full changelog for details.
